How Much Does Tutoring Cost on the Northern Beaches? A Guide for Parents
Private tutoring is one of the most effective ways to support a child's learning, yet many parents are unsure what they should expect to pay. Prices vary between providers, and so does what is included. This guide explains our rates, what each session includes, and how to assess whether tutoring offers genuine value.
Our Rates At Beachside Tutoring Collective, pricing is based on your child's year level. All sessions are one hour, and prices are the same whether sessions are held in person or online.
Level | Price per hour |
Primary school | $75 + GST |
Years 7–10 | $80 + GST |
Years 11–12 | $85 + GST |
Years 11–12 Extension | $90 + GST |
There are no travel fees for in-person sessions anywhere on the Northern Beaches, and no additional charges for materials.
What Is Included Every family begins with a free trial session, which also serves as an initial assessment of your child's strengths and areas for improvement. From there, your tutor develops a personalised learning plan. All sessions include:
A tailored learning plan
Regular progress reports
All necessary materials and resources
Support between sessions, with our team available on 0481 303 161
We also pride ourselves on being as flexible as possible with cancellations and rescheduling, as we understand that family schedules can change.
How Many Sessions Will My Child Need? Most families book one hour per subject per week. Some students benefit from additional sessions, for example those catching up on missed content or balancing school with commitments such as elite sport. Following the initial assessment, we will recommend a schedule based on your child's individual needs.
One-to-One Tutoring or Group Sessions? Group tutoring generally costs less per hour, but the lower price does not always mean better value. In one-to-one sessions, the tutor can focus entirely on your child, identify exactly where they are struggling, and adjust the pace accordingly.
One family we work with had spent a full year in group tutoring, attending four hours each week. After a single term of one hour per week of one-to-one Mathematics tutoring with us, their child's results had improved more than they had over the previous year.
Every student learns differently, but one-to-one tutoring is often a much faster way to make progress, particularly for younger students. The difference tends to be smaller for self-motivated senior students who are comfortable asking questions. For this reason, we also offer two-hour small-group sessions for senior students as a more affordable option. Pricing for group sessions depends on the group, so please contact us for details.
Why the Lowest Price Is Not Always the Best Value When comparing tutoring options, consider what is included as well as the hourly rate. A structured plan, regular progress updates and a well-matched tutor mean each session achieves more, and fewer sessions may be needed to reach the same result. For guidance on what to look for, see our post How to Choose the Right Tutor for Your Child.
The Difference a Supported Team Makes When comparing tutoring options, it is worth considering not only who the tutor is, but also the support behind them. Many independent tutors are recent high school graduates who achieved strong results themselves. While excellent results are valuable, achieving them is a different skill from teaching others how to achieve them.
Our team includes qualified teachers and tutors with experience supporting students in NSW schools, alongside high-achieving graduates and university students. We prioritise tutors who are committed to tutoring as a long-term career, so your child can build a lasting relationship with the same tutor.
Every tutor at Beachside Tutoring Collective is also backed by our wider team. Rather than relying on one individual, families benefit from:
A current Working With Children Check for every tutor
Induction training for all new tutors
Learning plans reviewed by our senior staff
Careful matching based on your child's learning needs, personality and age
Regular progress reports
A team available between sessions on 0481 303 161
The option to change tutors if the fit is not quite right
This structure means your child's learning is consistent, well organised and closely monitored, rather than dependent on a single tutor working alone.
